Tech-makers to create 3D standard

Panasonic, Samsung, Sony and developer XPAND 3D have come together with the goal of developing a standard for consumer 3D glasses, so that one pair of glasses can be used across devices, The Australian reported today.

Because there currently is no standard for the glasses, one pair can be used only on one brand’s devices.

The companies announced their collaboration yesterday, saying they hope to release the Full HD 3D Glasses Initiative in September, when they will begin development of new standardisation-applied active 3D glasses.

“Through this initiative, the four companies aim to widely introduce universal active 3D glasses to the market,” the press release stated.
