Pew’s “State of the News Media 2014” research shows that smartphone ownership makes it far more likely for the owner to watch videos in the United States. Of those who owned a smartphone in 2013, 53 percent watched news video and 88 percent watched video. Of those who did not own a smartphone, 18 percent watched online news video and 35 percent watched video online.
