India contributed US$7.5 billion to the world’s advertising economy, making it the 13th biggest advertising economy in 2016. India is projected to contribute US$10.4 billion in 2019, thereby rising to the 11th largest advertising economy, according to Zenith’s Advertising Expenditure Forecasts, published in March 2017.
India is tied for third place in the contribution of growth to the ad economy from 2016 to 2019. No. 1 United States is expected to contribute US$20.6 billion in new ad revenue, or 28%; while No. 2 China is projected to contribute US$17.9 billion, or 24%, Zenith reported. The Indonesia, United Kingdom and India each are expected to contribute 4%, or about US$3 billion each.
Unlike other countries, newspapers remains the No. 1 adspend media, projected to garner about US$4.2 billion by 2019, while television adspend is close behind, at a projected US$3.8 billion by 2019. Compared to other countries, India is lagging with Internet monetisation, fetching just over US$1 billion by 2019, Zenith projected.
